I decided to make my little firsties some word work iPhones.
The kids use wipe off markers on the laminated card stock *phones* to write 5 of their spelling/sight/vocab {whatever} words and then practice *texting* those words.
The kids are so into phones, texting and everything else involved with this chatting with one another – what a hit!
I keep about 20 of them in a tub in our word work area along with some thin tipped white board markers. They use them constantly.
Seriously.
Constantly.
It is one of their FAVORITE activities.
Yes sometimes I catch them “texting” conversations instead of the words I set out for them to practice for the week, but I don’t care. They are WRITING those conversations before the “text” them!
It’s awesome.
