Providing parents with continual updates and communication is important. I use an editable monthly newsletter form that provides parents with all sorts of information.
First, the newsletter is a calendar. I add in all of the things that are happening during the month.
Next, the newsletter informs parents of daily student behavior. My teammates utilize this as part of their behavior system. There are little squares beside each date that the students color in daily according to where they landed on the behavior chart at the end of each day (red/yellow/green). I’m not big on tracking daily behavior unless there is some kind of SEVERE reason to do so. Everyone has a bad day. A bad WEEK however is a different story. So I do not use this part of the newsletter.
I also include a little snippet of our curricular focuses for the month. It’s easy to type in a quick description of the primary standards that we’ll be covering.
The “to do” section to highlight some key things that need attention during the month.
Last, my favorite part. The editable newsletter has 12 pre-written parent tips. This “parent chat” section is easily filled in with a simple click!
With these parent messages BUILT IN, just click the one you’d like to add, or add your own. There are 12 pre-written options. The article topics are:
- Welcome & Consistency
- Communication
- Responsibility
- Limiting Screen Time
- Creating Traditions
- Experiences
- Teamwork & Collaboration
- Growth Mindset
- Encouraging Independence
- The Value of Boredom
- For the Love of Reading
- Inspiring Writers
Here’s a little video about it!
