Our social studies theme for January is “Our Place in the World”.
It fits in perfectly with our science study of the variety of penguin habitats and one of our reading series stories… Me on the Map.
This concept is so hard for my kiddos.
What state do we live in?
NORTH AMERICA!
What country do we live in?
CALIFORNIA!
Ugh… it’s a long process.
But we are making progress.
S.L.O.W.L.Y.
Today everyone was able to name the city we lived in and recognize that Mexico is not a state without any help from me.
Progress.
As an introduction, last week we completed this little activity. Actually they completed it with my amazing sub – so I didn’t get kiddo sample pictures. Mine will have to do. 🙂
I like that it provides a big picture to small picture kind of thing.
And, as it states in this week’s plans…
…we did Planet Earth
and My Neighbor activities during social studies.
They both helped a LOT.
This Where I Live unit is available in my store
{here}.
I’ve been swamped and dropped the ball on posting my plans this past weekend. Click the plan pic to enlarge those plans. Click HERE to download the “clickable” version. There are links to FREEBIES on it! 🙂
