I’m up to my eyeballs with weather writing… storms, seasons, clouds. We’ve become experts. We’ve been working on cloud science this week. We finished our Recipe for a Cloud and the kids loved it.
Today we did a quick little activity about clouds that didn’t involve writing. ssshhhhh. I’m exhausted. They’re exhausted. We needed a break.
Cloud Science Flip Book
Start with 3 1/2 sheets of construction. Stack them by staggering them about an inch up from the last. After that, fold the stack in half and staple it. {I used one blue and 2 gray… but they don’t need to be any specific color.}
Cut out the “cover blurb” and glue it to the top layer. Label the rest of the tabs.
The first label is “What are clouds”. This kiddo insisted I take picture of her “water vapor as it is evaporating from the puddle”. Her words. Ahhh… It’s those “lightbulbs” that make it all just soooo worth it!
The second is cirrus clouds. They take a cotton ball and carefully pull it apart into little wisps.
{Cirrus clouds indicate a change in weather is on its way. They were in the sky today… rain is heading our way. Kind of a perfect day to do a clouds activity.}
Third is cumulus. Just a couple of “slightly tugged” cotton balls.
Stratus clouds in the next section. Another couple of cotton balls stretched out into thin “layers”.
On the last section the kids place their favorite kind of clouds. Sometime ago, they asked me why I take pictures of their things.
I said I like to share pictures of their awesome hard work with my friends. These kiddos felt I should share pictures of their favorite clouds with my friends. So I’m sharing. Haha.
It’s a quick, easy and effective activity. You can grab this FREEBIE here.
