CVC Word Work – “I Have – Who has” CARDS

CVC Word Work – “I Have – Who has” CARDS

I’m excited share these CVC word work games that I use at the beginning of each school year. They are a fun way for the whole class to  practice the phonetic sound/rule for the week. A big plus – the kiddos get to stand up when it’s their turn and get some of those “squirmies” out.  They are fantastic for kinders and early 1st graders.

CVC Word Work Cards

There are 30 cards for each CVC Word Work set… because I have 30 kiddos in my class.  (Oh, how I miss class-size reduction and being able to spend a lot of 1:1 time with my kids when they need it… not to mention the quiet that came with fewer little ones. Actually the list about why 30:1 in kinder and first is just wrong goes on and on, but I’ll save it!) Those of you fortunate teachers who have less kids can give a few of them two cards.

If you’ve never played I have…Who Has – it’s VERY simple. Each child gets a card or two or three or whatever depending on the number of kids you have. The child with the “start” card goes first. They stand up and read their card out loud.

The person holding the card with the requested word, reads theirs. And so on.

Play continues until the child with the final card reads theirs.

It’s such a great way to practice blending sounds, using chunk strategies, and building fluency confidence. Once you’ve played it as a class, put it in your word work center and the kids have a blast playing it in small groups!

Super simple and super effective! CVC word work at its best. 😉

Other Practice Opportunities

There are MANY more CVC word work games in Reading Foundation with Phonics! We use this DAILY in class for direct, independent, and guided instruction. The kiddos use the independent and word work components daily to increase their phonic mastery!

Another AMAZING tool for word work practice are the Word Work Activities Extravaganza resources! One set of cards and a multitude of activities provides LOW to NO PREP for the teacher and an entire school year of activities for the students!

Me again. Your button isn't working. I'm getting your header instead of the little square button and it doesn't link back. Sorry 🙁
