It’s time for WISH LIST WEDNESDAY! This week I am highlighting my morning work for K-2, Morning Wake Up.
I’m beyond thrilled that so many teachers are using this in their classroom. I’m excited to see it on so many wish lists, too! I couldn’t imagine starting my day any other way.
My team and I have been using the first grade version for years.
It starts off easy so that the kids can work independently while practicing important basic skills.
And slowly builds throughout the year.
The format stays the same so that the concentration can stay where it needs to be… on the skills to be mastered.
Students do VERY well with this morning work. Because it starts off nice and easy, most kids can do it independently right from the very beginning. When a new concept is introduced, it just takes a moment to give the direction and they are off doing it on their own.
Another IMPORTANT component of how I use this in class is how we grade it together. Please see Does it Really Take 30 Minutes to Wake Up? to read more about how I implement this in my classroom.
Having Morning Wake Up as our morning routine has definitely played a large part in building the ELA and Math skills in our kiddos. My team noticed a HUGE jump in decoding, comprehension and math application skills once this became part of our daily routine.
The kinder version of Morning Wake Up provides essential practice for the little ones. It provides that same format with a slow build in depth of concepts. Again, the students quickly learn the routine and easily work on the pages with little support.
Each and every problem in Morning Wake Up is labeled with the standard to which the skill applies.
Not only is Morning Wake Up the perfect morning work activity, it is also awesome for reading group work and homework.
The second grade Morning Wake Up takes these skills developed through kinder and first to the ultimate level in primary decoding, comprehension and math application. On my campus our all of the K-2 teachers use Morning Wake Up.
