I’m excited because I’m looking forward to summer, and sleeping in and relaxing. But I’m sad, too. This group of kiddos has been an amazing group. Each and every one of them.
This week we have some fun stuff planned.
This past week I had to sit in on a very large IEP with a whole lot of very important people. I have never sat in on an IEP so large. The student didn’t even go to our school. I can’t tell you anything about it except that it reinforced how absolutely difficult and rewarding our job is as first grade teachers.
First graders GROW a lot in one year – both socially and academically.
We expect them to learn so much and most do – and when that happens it is such a thrill. I’m convinced it’s our drug. It’s what keeps us coming back for more. The reward of those huge gains in knowledge are just as great as the demand.
To exemplify what we’ve learned in the area of phonics this school year, my class is going to complete this book and craft.
It covers all of the phonic rules we’ve learned in first grade.
And because everything is even more fun with a craft! we will make this cutie pie little smarty pants owl to go with it!

These last 4 student days are going to be over in a blink!
Our last day in a minimum day and we’ll spend that reminiscing and celebrating with Smartie Awards. And I’ll do my best not to cry. 🙂
