Classroom Organization Tips Sealed with a KISS
I totally admit that I’m obsessed with organization.
It works out well that I have a home away from home in my classroom. I can be ridiculously OCD about where things go and what sticks around. At home, it’s a different story. The other 3 people and 2 dogs that live here have their own theory about organization – let’s just say we differ.
This is a picture of my actual desktop. I’m not kidding, I really don’t like anything on it. It’s just a simple wallpaper I designed and one little file (That’s the purple circle with the heart in it) at the top right. In that file I place anything I am currently working on. As soon as I finish whatever it is… I move it out of there and into its permanent home.
In Mac you can change the icon for file folders to whatever you want with ease. I like creating and finding different icons for my file folders.
This is a picture of my Documents folder. These are the “drawers” as I see it in my mind. Everything on my computer falls into one of these categories. The green blob at the top is my school and everything I do for that (not my class, but the school). Then the work done for my district, all things that has to do with my class, team – first grade, online/internet related items, and personal stuff. I like to color code these “drawers” too. It helps my eyes ignore the system files that are in my Documents folder.
I like to keep things uncluttered and clean in my classroom too – trying to organize as I go. I LOVE how quickly students catch on to the whole “everything has a place” routine and they just take care of it.
Above all – one of the best ways to stay organized… Just Keep It Simple Silly! Don’t be afraid to toss out, share with others, giveaway… stuff that’s been sitting around in your cupboards and drawers forever. Simplify your life and get rid of the clutter.
