Sunflower Winner… You don’t even know!
While policing the blacktop during morning arrival recess duty today, two little boys walked up to me.
“He kicked me with a ball,” said Boy 1.
“I don’t EVEN know HIM,” said Boy 2.
They each repeated these two sentences while I processed the craziness of the situation.
“It really hurts!” said Boy 1.
“Honey, why did you kick a ball at him?” I asked bewildered Boy 2.
“I don’t EVEN know HIM,” repeated Boy 2
“OK… but did you kick at ball at him?”
He just stared at me. I just stared at him. We were getting nowhere.
After asking this question for the 3rd time, he answered “Yes, but I don’t know him.”
So I explained that it doesn’t make anything hurt any less if you don’t know the person you hurt.
He obviously didn’t get it. He was baffled. I was baffled.
I asked if he could imagine what it would feel like if HE was hit by a ball. “I have been hit by a ball. It hurt really bad.”
“Ok. So, you know how he feels and it isn’t great….soooooooo …. maybe you should tell him you are sorry.”
“But I DON’T even KNOW him!”
oh sweet heavens
Thanks for all of your sweet comments about my Sunny Sunflower science bulletin board. They really are cheery. That’s good. March is such a loooooooong month; it’s nice to have something joyful to look at for that long.
The random number generator chose comment #5.
Speaking of lengthy March…MANY of you are on Spring Break… Whatever! 😛
Moreover, some of you have 2 weeks off! 2 weeks?! Maybe you started way earlier than me, or end way later, or something like that so I could find this less painful? We don’t have Spring break until April 9th. Well actually, we have a furlough day April 6th, so I guess it actually starts then.
We worked on our Me and the Beanstalk writing again today. I’ll try to post some pics tomorrow. Some of the stories they are working on are so cute. 🙂
My birthday is Saturday. St. Patrick’s Day AND a birthday?! Sounds like a party, right? I’ll have some sort of celebration here in bloggyland anyway.
